Samoa Submarine Cable Company Limited (SSCC) is one of Samoa’s foremost digital transformation organizations — the Samoan-owned wholesale operator of the Tui-Samoa cable system and a Trunk Party to the Manatua One Polynesia consortium. We sit at the forefront of innovation and we are taking Samoa forward: a new headquarters and cable landing station at Vaivase with on-site solar generation, AI-assisted network monitoring in build, and technical services other Pacific operators will buy from us. We are looking for the engineer who will own the physical layer under all of it, keep it running and keep making it better.

The bar you would be joining

Who we are looking for

Not a caretaker. A high performer with hustle, energy, ideas and a can-do attitude. You find the problem before it becomes a fault, implement the improvement rather than recommend it, and put a number on the result. You would join a small, highly experienced and motivated technical team with an outstanding team culture at its core — engineers who back each other, cover each other and move quickly. Real responsibility from day one; match the team’s energy from day one.

The role

You own the physical layer of SSCC’s network: submarine line terminal equipment, power feed equipment, optical distribution frames and line monitoring at the Vaivase and Tuasivi landing stations; wet-plant fault localization and marine repair liaison; standby generators, UPS, AC and DC power plant and the solar PV and battery installation; and the station facilities — BMS, HVAC, fire and security. You share the Network Operations Centre function and the 24-hour standby roster with your colleague, each the trained alternate for the other. Contracted service levels are the floor, not the target — standby power proven, not assumed.

What you will work on: commissioning the new Vaivase landing station and its solar and battery installation; the ASN power audit at Suva and Wallis and Futuna with ASN Type B and C certification, capability SSCC intends to sell regionally; the SLTE softnode swap-out; and cable repair and restoration, including the opportunity to join a repair on board the maintenance vessel.

Qualifications and experience

A bachelor degree in engineering, telecommunications, ICT-based infrastructure or a relevant field, with provision for equivalent experience, and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in submarine cable, transmission or facilities/power environments — or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. We mean the equivalence provision: we back capability over credentials. ASN or SubCom certification, optical transport or network security certification, a facilities or generator/power-plant qualification, and marine maintenance, landing station or vendor management experience are advantageous.
