Telecom Egypt and NaiTel, a licensed telecommunications service provider in Jordan and the telecom arm of Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH), have completed the laying of the express subsea cable Coral Bridge, which connects Egypt and Jordan.

According to Telecom Egypt, the Coral Bridge subsea system successfully landed in Taba, Egypt, then was laid across the Gulf of Aqaba until it finally successfully landed in Aqaba, Jordan.

“Coral Bridge is the first direct subsea cable between the two countries in over 25 years, providing an express high fiber count digital link across the Gulf of Aqaba, marking a major milestone in the region’s digital infrastructure development,” Telecom Egypt said in a statement.

Telecom Egypt stated that, on the Egyptian side, Coral Bridge is the first subsea system to land at its newly established cable landing point in Taba, which forms part of the company’s broader international digital infrastructure recently developed in the Sinai Peninsula.

“In Jordan, the cable landed at ADH’s Tier III carrier-neutral facility in Aqaba, supporting redundancy and recovery strategies for businesses, including enterprises and hyperscalers hosted in the data center,” the telco explained.

Coral Bridge connects Africa, Asia and Europe

Telecom Egypt said that, by leveraging both countries’ strategic locations and its extensive subsea ecosystem, Coral Bridge provides seamless onward connectivity across Asia, Africa and Europe.

It added that the 15-kilometer cable, equipped with 48 fiber pairs, is designed to transport over 1 petabit of data traffic, supporting the growing demand for data-intensive digital applications such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Additionally, its short length significantly reduces latency and lowers data costs.

ADH Founder and CEO Eyad Abu Khorma said Coral Bridge is a strategic asset for the entire region.

It lands at ADH’s carrier-neutral facility in Jordan and enhances regional market access, featuring one of the Middle East and North Africa’s largest data centers.
