Colt has secured capacity on NTT’s Juno subsea cable.
As part of its network expansion efforts, Colt Technology Services this week announced plans to launch new international routes connecting the US West Coast to Asia.
As part of the expansion, Colt will offer a new trans-Pacific backbone route via the Juno cable, connecting Tokyo, Japan, to Los Angeles on the West Coast of the US.
The 11,700km (7,270-mile) Juno cable entered service last year. It is owned and operated by Seren Juno, a joint venture of NTT, Mitsui & Co., PC Landing Corp, and JA Mitsui Leasing.
In Japan, the cable lands at Minamiboso (Chiba Prefecture) and Shima (Mie Prefecture); in the US, it lands in Grover Beach, California. The system extends to terrestrial Points of Presence in Tokyo, Osaka, Los Angeles, and San Jose.
The expansion will connect Colt’s existing terrestrial networks in Japan and the United States.
Buddy Bayer, chief operating officer, Colt Technology Services, said: “The world’s economies run on digital infrastructure, but there will come a point when existing capacity across some routes isn’t enough. This risks disrupting or even reversing the progress countries have made in connecting markets, organizations, and societies.”
Bayer continued: “At Colt, we have a deep commitment to solving problems for our customers so they can grow and scale. This investment in our digital infrastructure connecting the US West Coast to Tokyo, Japan, not only solves the capacity problem for our customers – it’s a gateway to global growth”.
Founded in 1992 and originally known as City Of London Telecom with backing from Fidelity Investments, Colt Group has been fully owned by Fidelity since 2015.
Colt’s network connects 32,000 buildings, spans over 40 countries, reaches more than 275 Points of Presence (PoPs), and includes ten subsea cable systems.
