An August 6 update from Pioneer Consulting says Cordova Telecom Cooperative has retained the firm to oversee early engineering and system design for FISH West 2 in Alaska.

The proposed system spans approximately 340 km and is the third initiative in the cooperative’s Fiber Internet Serving Homes portfolio. Its main path would run between Seward and Homer, while branches would reach Seldovia, Port Graham and Nanwalek. Those communities are among the remote locations the project is intended to serve with stronger broadband connectivity.

At Seward, the new system would share a landing location with FISH West, a separate planned network of 295 km between Cordova and Seward. That earlier system also includes branches toward Johnstone Point and the Village of Chenega and has a targeted service date in 3Q 2027. The announcement did not provide a service date for FISH West 2.

Federal support for FISH West 2 comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect Program. During the design stage, Pioneer will evaluate cable-routing and shore-landing options, address permitting, regulatory and environmental requirements, and collect market information that can guide design and procurement decisions.

Pioneer already supports CTC on FISH West and FISH South. Its latest assignment extends that partnership but remains an engineering and planning milestone. The August update does not say marine installation or construction has started.
