WSIS+20 Panel to Address Strengthening International Cooperation on Submarine Cable Resilience

The upcoming WSIS+20 Forum will see leading experts and government officials come together to discuss the future of global connectivity, with the issue of submarine cable resilience taking centre stage.
The high-level panel, titled-level panel, titled ‘Strengthening the Resilience of Submarine Telecommunication Cables‘, features an impressive lineup of speakers: H.E. Dr Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; H.E. Ms Liisa-Ly Pakosta, Estonia’s Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs; Prof Sandra Maximiano, Chairperson of ANACOM, Portugal; Mr Lew Chuen Hong, CEO of IMDA, Singapore, and Ms. Athena Jun Xian, Manager Director of China Telecom Europe and Executive General Manager of China Telecom Global. The panel will be moderated by ITU Deputy Secretary General Tomas Lamanauskas, Co-Secretariat of the International Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience.
The panel is jointly organized by Portugal, Nigeria, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), highlighting the strong international collaboration necessary to tackle the global challenges faced by submarine cable infrastructure.
At the panel, experts will discuss the submarine cable resilience, focusing on key topics such as regional cooperation, regulatory coordination and government & industry roles. It will offer valuable insights into how governments, regulators and industry leaders can collaborate to ensure submarine cables remain resilient in the face of future challenges.
